The COO in senior management

Being COO, you’ll normally find yourself second or third in command along with the CEO and the CFO. So, working closely with other high-level individuals and achieving your directives whilst overseeing the organisations ongoing operation and procedures takes dedication, drive and a superb work ethic.

Already occupying a senior role within a business, although not necessarily at COO level you’ll understand what it takes to drive a company forward whilst keeping it firmly on track.

Common directives will include;

  • Design and implementation of overall business strategies
  • Setting goals for the company alongside the CEO
  • Implementing culture
  • Overseeing daily operations
  • Using key data and metrics to identify and deliver improvements
  • Significant reporting to the senior personnel

The COO role is an extremely demanding yet fulfilling position as you’ll be the person everybody looks towards in maintaining operational efficiency. Any shortfalls will land squarely on your shoulders and you’ll be used to handling the hard to resolve issues that land on your desk.

However, it’s a satisfying career and one where you’ll find yourself with a large degree of autonomy in steering the operational side of the ship as you see fit. COO positions are also extremely rewarding in terms of creating an operating culture throughout an organisation that can be a lasting legacy of the individual.

Salaries with these roles are commensurate with the gravitas the role affords.

I’d like to say, from the 3 interviews/meetings that I’ve had with recruitment agencies over the last 3 weeks, you guys were head and shoulders above the rest. The quick turnaround for the interview was a bonus, but I came away that morning without feeling like just another CV on the pile… so thanks 🙂
