12 Days of Job Hunting

Saturday, December 31st, 2016

On the Seventh day of job hunting my recruiter said to me…

Know your strengths and weaknesses

Spring clean your social media

Give goOOOod examples

Research the company in detail

A suit or smart clothing to make the best first impression

A map to plan my journey

And a clear up to date CV

Focus on what you know they are looking for, even if it has been a smaller part of what you have been doing to date. The job advert or person specification form will give you the information you need about their requirements. Focus on what you know they are looking for, even if it has been a smaller part of what you have been doing to date.

On the Sixth day of job hunting my recruiter said to me….

Spring clean your social media

Give goOOOod examples

Research the company in detail

A suit or smart clothing to make the best first impression

A map to plan my journey

And a clear up to date CV

More and more employers are looking at social media when deciding on a candidate.  Make sure you don’t have anything out there that could show you in a negative light to an employer.  Never speak negatively about a current or past employer on social media as it will reflect badly on you.  And remember, if you don’t want your boss to know, don’t put it out there!

For each quality you present, make sure you’re prepared to describe a situation where you demonstrated that quality. Basically, you always want to be able to back up any claims you might make. For example, if during the interview you say that you work well under pressure, be ready to describe an example where you did work effectively under pressure and delivered the results required.

On the fourth day of job hunting my recruiter said to me…

Do your homework before the interview! Spend some time online or at the library researching the company. Find out as much as you can, including products, size, income, reputation, image, management talent, people, skills, history and philosophy. Project an informed interest; let the interviewer tell you about the company.

An interview is not the place to make a fashion statement and more and more companies are returning to traditional professional dress. Whatever you wear should indicate that you’re a professional who’s ready to get to work at a new job.

Double-check location, travel times etc. to ensure that you arrive in plenty of time.  Never arrive late to an interview.  Allow extra time to arrive early, allowing for factors like getting lost, finding a parking space etc.

12 Days of Job Hunting

On the first day of job hunting my recruiter said to me…..

A clear up to date CV

You will be surprised how many times we interview candidates in our office, only to find that the CV we have, isn’t their most up to date.  Make sure that the CV you are sending over, is up to date, clear, and easy to read and contains information relevant for the position that you are applying for.  If a position clearly asks for certain skills and qualifications, please make sure that they are in your CV or cover letter.  Recruiters are not mind readers and cannot assume you have the skills required unless it is in the CV.

A Great Big Thank You!

Thursday, December 22nd, 2016

We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who supported our Christmas Jumper Day and helped us raise money for the fantastic charity Save the Children.  We all had great fun trying to outdo each other’s Christmas jumper and we are so proud that we raised money for such a great cause.  Thanks again to each of you who donated as it will mean so much to so many children around the world. https://christmasjumperday.org/

CHRISTMAS JUMPER DAY FRIDAY 9TH DECEMBER

Monday, December 5th, 2016

Here at Alexander Hancock we take Christmas very very seriously, Grainne plans her present list from July onwards, Natalie is the only one allowed to dress the tree, Liz keeps DHL, UPS and Amazon in business with her deliveries, and Anneliese? Well she is a bit Bah Humbug about it all, but we ignore her… basically Christmas is, in our opinion, THE best time of the year but…

We are incredibly aware that this time of year is very difficult for others, particularly those children who are living in appalling conditions in Refugee Camps, so we are having a CHRISTMAS JUMPER DAY in our office on Friday 9th December to support SAVE THE CHILDREN. (www.savethechildren.org.uk)

The aim is to raise money to provide warm clothing for those children to help them keep warm through the winter, buy them food to keep up their strength and most importantly of all, provide a safe environment where they can be free from trafficking, slavery and the nightmares of war.

So we will donate £2 for every single person who comes into our offices on that day suitably attired in a Christmas Jumper and we will make an additional donation to the charity in our name.

Please feel free to pop in, have a mince pie and have a photo taken in your favourite winter woolly!

But if you can’t come in but want to support this amazing charity please text:

TEAMALEXHAN to 70050 and you will donate £2 to Save The Children

Thank you

LIFE AFTER THE EU REFERENDUM

Monday, July 4th, 2016

Nobody likes uncertainty but here is the thing; it is (as far as we can tell) a done deal and whatever your opinion, right now, this is the world in which need to operate today.

I am not going to hash through the pros and negatives of Leaving or Staying as quite honestly we have been talked at for the last 3 months and we are all tired of listening to so called experts who have not worked at ground level for a long long time, if ever. (more…)
